CN Enterprises Announcements

Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), the global branding and merchandising arm of Cartoon Network, announced this past week a huge variety of long-term options, each of which were inked with the knowledge of the company's original programming only increasing in popularity over the years. Having successfully signed deals that establish an appealing and curiously diverse line of consumer products for the hit action-adventure animated television series Ben 10 as well as other key programs, Cartoon Network Enterprises shows no signs of slowing down. Eager fans of any program are always willing to show support for their favorite cartoon by sporting the latest footwear, fleece or beach towel; and with the following announcements, CNE will give animation fans even more reason to show off their love for Cartoon Network originals.

Heirloom Discover Day to benefit riding charity

Bring your fine jewelry, coins, art and vintage items to Cathedral City this month to find out if they're valuable, and you can help a good cause at the same time.

Pegasus Riding Academy for the Handicapped is hosting an Heirloom Discovery Day on Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Doral Desert Princess in Cathedral City. The event, like the popular PBS "Antique Road Show," invites the public to bring their valuables to find out if they were true treasures.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Doral Desert Princess Hotel Grand Ballroom.

People interested in having their goods reviewed can call the Heirloom Discovery Day hotline at (760) 218-9922 in advance and make an appointment with an appraiser. Those without an appointment will be allowed to wait in line for an appraiser.

New museum honors Marine Corps FINE ART & ANTIQUES DR. LORI VERDERAME

WHILE AMERICA'S BRAVE and highly trained military men and women and their families help weave the fabric of contemporary American history today, the heroic story of one of the elite branches of the U.S. military, the Marine Corps, has been put on permanent display.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps opened its doors on Nov. 10, 2006, on a 135-acre site adjacent to the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va.

Interesting enough, the birthplace of the Marines was actually a pub in Philadelphia called the Tun Tavern. Legend has it that Capt. Samuel Nicholas began recruiting Marines in the Tun Tavern on Nov. 10, 1775. By 1798, an official act of Congress actually created the U.S. Marine Corps.

The museum's architecture rivals that of major national museums, and its collections tell the story of the Marines.

Fine arts raises admission standard

The Faculty Senate passed a measure yesterday to allow the College of Fine Arts to be more selective in its admissions, requiring students to show artistic talent in addition to academic merit.

Maurice Sevigny, dean of the College of Fine Arts, said a three-year pilot program has asked students to audition for music, theatre and dance programs. Applicants to the art, media art, art history and art education programs will need to submit portfolios or written statements. . .
